Your Grey Cup Champions, The BC Lions

The BC Lions had held their intimate celebration with their fans tonight inside their home, BC Place.  It was amazing, fun and special.  Speeches were made, players came out, danced, were interviewed by Angus Reid, presentations were made to Wally Buono on his 540 or 544th win of the year, videos were played and the players and fans had a great time and received a commemorative poster of the stadium on Grey Cup day on the way out.  Here are some pics and highlights of tonight.  It was very very chilly inside the stadium so I left after the players left the stage.  Frozen to the bone.

Here's a video of the fun before in our seats.

This is George Chayka, Vice President of the BC Lions.  He was the MC for the night.

This BC Lions Celebration video kicked off the evening.

This guy also talked (can't remember his name) and thanked BC Lions fans for showing the world that we can party responsibly while hosting a major party, especially after a win.

Then the Felions came out and danced.

Jamie Taras came on as well, to introduce the BC Lions Players.

The Players came out of the Giant Lion Head at the West Enterance.

I think Arland Bruce is cute...his entry was cute too.

The last three players to come out onto the field were, you guessed it, Paul McCallum, Geroy Simon and Travis Lulay.  While Simon held the cup, the other two struck the superman pose.

Once the Grey Cup was settled on the stage, Wally Buono was surprised with a commemorative print for his 540th win.  He looked genuinely surprised.

Angus Reid was also asked 3 minutes prior to interview some of his team mates on stage.  He said he was able to come up with some question for some guys.  Here are some of the answers. (Don't quote me as these are mainly summerizations of what they said.)

First up was Aaron Hunt.  His Question: The fans were  pretty loud inside BC Place on Grey Cup day and thought it was deafening.  What did you think of it?
Answer: Yeah, the fans were loud and it was deafening which was good because the other team couldn't hear any of their plays for sure.  Thank you fans.

Interview #2 - with Paul McCallum

Question: So everyone is aware of your record of 33 field goals consecutively, but what I wanna know is what happened to those 3 missed field goals?
Answer: It was Jarious's fault, he didn't put it in the right position..lol

Interview #3 - with Geroy Simon and Travis Lulay

Question for Both: For those of you who know, all I do is stand there in front of this guy and throw the ball to him.  He's supposed to come and take it but he never does. I have to throw it to him. So I want him to get into position and take it from me! Then I want you to throw the ball to Geroy so he can catch it and do the superman pose cause he never got to do it when you came out!

Answer:

After the interviews were over, it was Wally's turn to say something.  As he walked to the podium, the stadium was chanting "Wally, Wally" and gave him a standing ovation.  Wally addressed the crowd and fans with a great speech and ended it with thanking the fans and telling us the Grey Cup couldn't have been won without all the fans cheering so loudly as we did and for supporting them throughout the season.  They won the Grey Cup for us.

It ended with another video and the person who wrote the lyrics to "Roar you Lions ROAR" was there.  He and the rest of the team sang the song together.  It was sweet.

Thank you BC Lions for winning the Grey Cup for this city.  Lets hope we're able to do this all over again next year!
