The Stanley Cup Visits Surrey!

So, I found out through Twitter that the Stanley Cup was making a visit to the Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre on Februrary 24th.  I was all over that.  My friend, Nadine and I, were planning a get together on the weekend for a movie but when I heard the Stanley Cup was coming, I asked her if she would like to accompany me to see the cup since she's also a huge hockey fan.  Unfortunately, she's a Winnipeg Jets fan.  I guess its better than being a Chicago Blackhawks fan.  So, I don't mind it as much. :)

This event was put on by the ScotiaBank Girls Hockey Events.  The cup was open to the public from 12:30-4:30pm.  First five hundred people in line got their pics taken professionally.  When Nadine and I arrived at the Rec Centre, there was already a line up.  But it wasn't bad.  Only 5 people ahead of us.  Mind you, we were also two and a half hours early.  So, we patiently waited in line with the other 5 people and made friends with the girls behind us.  Initially I wasn't going to wear my Canucks Bieksa jersey as I had on a green Canucks t-shirt and leather jacket.  But in the end, after seeing so many other people wearing their jerseys, I caved and went back to my car and put on my jersey.

With only half an hour left, we could tell there was activity going on.  We could smell indian food and the girls hockey team were in position to greet the cup.

The cup was escorted by two RCMP officers, wearing their red serges for the event. Along with the two NHL Stanley Cup handlers wearing white gloves.  They walked up the steps and right by me where I was able to take the picture up top.  They went straight into a multi-purpose room and set it up.  Soon after we were able to go in.  We were greeted with the smell of indian food.  The lineup took us first into the food tent where they had Vegetable somosas, pakoras, Chicken somosas and for a little sweetness, there was Gulab Jamun and Jelebi.  I took a vegatable somosa and a gulab jamun.  You had to be able to finish the food before you got to the Stanley Cup line.  The next tent the line up took us through was the email line.  Two girls with ipads stood there taking down your first name and your email address.  This information was then scanned onto a card with a barcode on it.  This card was then given to me and I was to give it to the lady at the front taking professional pics of fans with the Stanley Cup.  As I waiting in line, Nadine had gone up to get her pic taken.

Once she was done, it was my turn.  I handed the lady my card and went up to take my picture.  Once I was done, I headed back to where Nadine was standing and we decided there wasn't much else there for us.  Only a shootout tent and fastest shot tent.  So, we headed out to Central City Brewing to watch the Canucks vs. Detroit Red Wings game.  Wished I hadn't watched that a my 'Nucks lost 8-3.  Not good.

The next morning I received an email from Nadine telling me that her picture had been emailed to her earlier that morning. I eagerly started looking through my emails as well cause surely if Nadine got her, I would of had one sent to me too.  I was wrong.  I even checked my junk mail.  So, I thought, well, maybe it will come later that day.  No dice.  Of course, Nadine was bummed cause it was my idea to go in the first place and I didn't get my picture.  So, I got Nadine to send me the email they sent her so I could contact them about my picture.  Eventually, a few days passed and I still hadn't received a reply back.  So, I went on facebook and found the ScotiaBank Hockey Club page and was able to contact someone there about it.  A few days later I had  reply to my email sent a week before that they had found it!  It was sent to me right away.  It wasn't my best picture. I had curled my hair earlier but the rain had dampened it down. Doesn't look right in this pic. I also wasn't really ready for it cause it was so rushed but its probably the only time I'll be able to get close the Cup since the Canucks don't seem to eager to win it anytime soon.

In any case, a big thank you to Scotiabank Events for taking the time to find my lost picture. I very much appreciate it even though it took a week to find it! :)
